Capiceños continue to access gov’t rice
ROXAS CITY – The government continues to provide Capiceños with quality and affordable rice.
Capiz National Food Authority designated Information Officer Jose Davila, Jr. disclosed that the public, particularly the poor continues to have access to government rice through the various rice outlets in Capiz.
Davila said that a total of 13,160 bags of government rice were distributed to the different rice outlets in the province during the first quarter of this year, that is from January to March.
Records from the NFA Capiz Provincial Office show that the there are 124 accredited Tindahan Natin, 24 Institutionalized Bigasan sa Palengke, 35 Bigasan sa Barangay and 2 Tindahan sa Parokya rice outlets operating in the province.
Earlier, NFA Administrator Jessup Navarro disclosed that the food agency was able to issue a total of 2.2 million bags of rice worth P2 billion to the various Tindahan Natin and Bigasan sa Parokya outlets nationwide during the first quarter of this year.
In addition, they were also able to distribute to said outlets noodles worth P47,837.00 to support the government program of eliminating hunger and alleviating poverty in the countryside.
Navarro cited the TN and BP projects are focused on helping the marginalized sector, particularly the poor by giving them access to quality rice of NFA which is being sold at a subsidized price of P18.25 per kilogram.
Twenty percent of the agency’s targeted rice sales per month is exclusively allocated for the said projects, he said.
He revealed that at present, a total of 13,247 TN and 1,548 BP outlets are actively operating nationwide.
Each outlet can serve 250 to as many as 1,000 beneficiaries wanting to buy NFA rice, he said, adding that some 14 million consumers mostly from the marginalized sector benefit from the program daily. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
