Iloilo City’s juvenile welfare center holds training on handling CICL cases
The Iloilo Juvenile Welfare Foundation (IJWF), Inc. is conducting a two-day training on Juvenile Justice Network for its partners and stakeholders on how to better handle cases pertaining to children in conflict with the law (CICL).
Currently chaired by Mrs. Rosalie S. Treñas, the IJWF is a non-government organization that helps CICL restore their lives to normalcy and to become more responsible and productive members of their families and communities.
The training on April 21 and 22 is expected to be attended by almost 70 participants coming from the judiciary, barangays, local and national government agencies, Philippine National Police (PNP), and the “Dalayunan” Home for the Boys, a half-way center managed by IJWF.
Supporting the activity is the General Santos City Juvenile Justice Network, in coordination with Vlaams International Centrum-Belgium.
“This is the first time we are having this training,” Dalayunan Social Worker Sally Belisario said. “We have invited resource persons from GenSan since their juvenile network is in operation, and they can share their best practices on how to better manage CICL cases.”
“Iloilo City has not yet put into full implementation the Republic Act 9344 (Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act), especially when it comes children in conflict with the law,” she added.
IJWF also wanted its partners to be aware of their respective roles in handling cases dealing with minors, like the PNP, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Department of Social Welfare and Development, City Social Welfare and Development Office, Department of Interior and Local Government, village officials, and legal entities.
Topics to be discussed on the training are about Restorative Justice, Community Diversion Program, RA 9344, Current Practices in Handling CICL, and Referral Flow. (PIO)
