Treñas says plot to assassinate him confirmed
As election day nears, the plot to topple down Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas escalates.
Yesterday, Treñas revealed to have received reports of an assassination plan against him.
The mayor claimed that a police colonel bared that killers were hired by an undisclosed individual to have him murdered.
The two hired killers were allegedly from Mindanao and from Cainta, Rizal.
Even Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) officer-in-charge Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi admitted to have also received the said information.
In fact, he claimed that he already augmented the area security personnel detailed to secure the mayor since Sunday evening.
“Nag-request siya ng additional troops so, ‘yun ang gating ginawa. Nagdagdag kami ng mga kapulisan sa mga lugar na pinupuntahan ng ating Mayor,” Basngi said.
In the interim, the city police chief said that they are treating the information as authentic, especially since it involves the life of a chief local executive.
“This is a serious matter that’s why, we immediately added personnel to secure him on his areas of engagement while we are still validating the reports,” he claimed.
But Basngi clarified that the personal security detail on Treñas remains the same.
For now, the ICPO chief revealed that he tasked a group of policemen to unearth the reports of the presence of hired killers.
“Sasalubungin at hindi natin sila papayagan ng magawa ang anumang sinasabing gagawin nila,” he added.
Basngi said that he already met with the intelligence community in Iloilo City and they already talked about the counter-measures that they would implement.
Foremost of the task ahead was to verify the existence of these hired killers and once known, the police would leave no stones unturned to look for their whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Basngi said that they normally deploy police personnel to political caucuses to prevent any untoward incidents from happening.
