Former RPA-ABB member arrested over Comelec gun ban violations
KALIBO, AKLAN – A former member of the Revolutionary Proletariat Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) was arrested by the Ibajay police and the Aklan Provincial Management Safety Office of the Aklan Provincial Police Office (APPO) for gun ban violation Monday morning.
Ibajay police investigator Inspector Frenzy Andrade identified the suspect as Richard Reyes alias Ka Jun Dalton, a native of Culasi, Antique. Reyes was arrested while onboard the vehicle of provincial board member Pedro Garcia who is running for the mayoral post in Ibajay town.
“We received a phone call from a village chief about the suspicious identity of a bodyguard of Garcia. The Ibajay PNP and the APPO team immediately set up a checkpoint and saw the suspect wearing a mask around 3:15 a.m. Monday,” Andrade said.
Recovered from Reyes was a caliber pistol .45 in Barangay Aquino, Ibajay. He did not resist the arrest but refused to give statement to the media.
Reyes has been tagged as a suspect in the killing of RPA-ABB regional operations commander Daniel Batoy alias Ka Mokong and his 10-year old daughter in 2005 in Brgy. Tina, Makato town.
Reyes will be charged for Comelec gun ban violation and illegal possession of firearms on Tuesday. He is currently in Ibajay PNP jail. (PNA)
