Int’l personalities observe country’s first poll automation
Facilitated by Kontra Daya group, an election watchdog, some 87 international personalities are here in the country to observe the conduct of the first ever poll automation.
Ten of them were sent here in Iloilo Saturday (May 8) and will be here until May 12 after they will be able to give their initial assessment of the poll automation process to the local media.
The group were divided into two wherein five of them stayed in the city while five were in Estancia, Iloilo considered to be a hotspot area by the Commission on Elections recently.
Lincoln Ellis of National Lawyers’ Guild of United States of America said they were here to write down what they have observed on the elections.
“We will make sure the people’s freedom and safety while exercising their rights to vote for the leaders they wanted to,” said Lincoln.
He said they will write all irregularities they will found and they will make it known to the international scene so the government will be pressured to take actions on the matter.
Lincoln said that the group was composed of persons coming from different sectors and countries as well.
Considering language unfamiliarity, Hope Hervilla of Kontra Daya said they will be accompanied by their members so they could understand well the situation and what is going on at the area.
