DAR accepts applicants for Scholarship Program
The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Iloilo Provincial Office under the leadership of Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer II, Gideon A. Umadhay, Jr is pleased to announce that the office is now recruiting applicants for its scholarship program, the “Programang Agraryo Iskolar.”
The “Programang Agraryo Iskolar” formerly known as the “President Diosdado Macapagal Agrarian Scholarship Program (PDMASP),” is an innovative program designed to provide qualified dependents of the beneficiaries of the agrarian reform program an opportunity to study and complete an agriculture-related four (4) year college degree course from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) with financial support from DAR under a competitive screening system. The scholarship grant consists of tuition fee assistance, monthly stipend and book allowance.
Qualified applicants must be a 1. legitimate dependent of an Agrarian Reform Beneficiary (ARB); 2. a high school graduate with a general average grade of at least 80% at the time of application; 3. must have passed the college admission examination given by the SUC where he or she intends to enroll; 4. must be in good health and of good moral character; 5. preferably single; 6. must not be more than 25 years old at the time of application; 7. must not be convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude and; 8. must not have pending administrative and criminal case.
Interested applicants must submit the following: 1. accomplished Application Form 01 with 2’ X 2” recent photo in three (3) copies; 2. certified machine copy of the Birth Certificate of the applicant; 3. Health Certificate issued by a government hospital or physician; 4. Barangay Clearance and current year Community Tax Certificate; 5. Certification by the Municipal Agrarian Reform Officer (MARO) that the applicant is a qualified dependent of an ARB (Form 02); 6. Certified photocopy of Form 138 (High School Report Card); 7. Statement of Commitment and Support (Form 04) to PROGRAMANG AGRARYO ISKOLAR by the parents/guardian of the applicant; 8. Certificate of Good Moral Character issued by the High School Principal or Religious Leader in the community; 9. Certificate of Rating from the SUC for passing the entrance examination; and 10. Certified true copy of the Income Tax Return (ITR) of applicant’s parents (optional).
Courses eligible for enrollment are: B.S. Agriculture; B.S. Agri – Business; B.S. Agricultural Technology; B.S. Agricultural Education; Animal Husbandry; Agricultural Economics; Development Communications; Fishery Technology; Food Technology; Community Development and Rural Sociology.
Application Forms are available at the office of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), St. Clement’s Compound, Luna St., La Paz, Iloilo City. The deadline for the submission of application is on May 31, 2010.
It can be recalled that since the implementation of the scholarship program in 2003, DAR – Iloilo has a total of 113 scholars enrolled in eleven (11) State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) in the province. Out of these, seven (7) are still studying and one hundred six (106) had already graduated with agriculture related degrees.
With the first batch of graduates in 2007, DAR – Iloilo was able to produced four (4) cum laude while in 2008, another cum laude, and in 2009, eight (8) cum laude and a magna cum laude.
