Comelec sets special election for Guimbal village on Monday
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here has decided to hold a special automated election for a village in Guimbal, on Monday, May 17.
On Election Day, May 10, voting was postponed in Brgy. Generosa-Cristobal Colon, Guimbal since the official ballots for the barangay contained the names of local candidates from Samar and not of Guimbal.
The switcheroo was only found out on Election Day when it was opened by the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI).
Voting in the remaining barangays however went smoothly. Guimbal is about 29 kilometers south of Iloilo City and has 33 barangays.
Provincial election supervisor Elizabeth Doronila said that special election was approved by the Comelec. Only the 462 registered voters of Barangay Generosa-Cristobal Colon, Guimbal get to vote again.
Doronila said that after the election results from this barangay are transmitted in the municipal level, the provincial board of canvassers (BOC) can receive the entire election results from Guimbal.
She said that the board of canvassers will convene on Tuesday afternoon to count the votes from Guimbal.
Recently, the camp of Sen. Mar Roxas here wanted Comelec to count the votes from the town of Guimbal and Miag-ao so as to maximize voters count.
Miag-ao also had a failure of transmission due to glitches in the security code of the PCOS.
Guimbal and Miagao are the only towns that have not transmitted their election results in the province. Both towns have combined voters of more than 40,000. (PNA)
