Mabilog vows to continue Treñas’ programs
Newly proclaimed mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog vowed to continue the programs left behind by outgoing chief executive Jerry Treñas who won for congressman of lone district of this city.
Mabilog said his priorities are more on health services and other social services such as education and livelihood opportunities.
He revealed that the city government is planning to establish a general hospital to cater to the health needs of the city residents.
The proposed city general hospital will be a two-storey building with a capacity of 40 beds in a 3,000 square meter-lot behind the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao district here.
It will be established with an initial funding of P25 million from the countrywide development fund of re-elected Ilongga Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
In fact, Mabilog said that Santiago has already donated 40 beds for the said hospital.
Mabilog added that upon assumption to office, he will formalize the details of the hospital project together with members of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB).
For the meantime that the hospital is not yet materialized, the newly-elected mayor will place certain budget for WVMC and West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC) for patients from the city.
Meanwhile, Mabilog is also eyeing an additional 100,000 recipients of PhilHealth cards. Currently, the city has registered 55,000 PhilHealth beneficiaries.
“We will identify poorest of the poor. Sila dapat una maka avail sini nga project,” he stressed.
Mabilog also said that he will correct the old referral system practice.
It has been a long practice that the city government makes a referral to the congressman before the patient is given financial assistance of P1,000 to P2,000.
Mabilog added that there are lots of documents to produce before the patient could avail of the cash assistance.
He said that he would propose to put up offices in two hospitals and assign city hall employees who would take charge of all the referrals.
“At least all transactions will be done inside the hospitals,” he quipped.
Mabilog said that Sen. Edgardo Angara and Sen. Franklin Drilon also committed to extend additional funds for the health services.
