New rounds of consultation on wage hike set
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Western Visayas has scheduled another round of public consultations in line with the pending petition for a P50 increase in the daily wage of private workers in the region.
It can be recalled that a petition for a P50 wage increase was filed by the Trade Union of Filipino Workers in Bacolod City on December 8, last year.
RTWPB Board Secretary Nesa Nalido said the public consultations will be held in Iloilo City on June 3 and Bacolod City on June 16, 2010.
Nalido said these new rounds of talks will give other sectors particularly those who were not able to attend previous consultations the opportunity to share their inputs on the proposed wage increase.
These sectors were from the private educational institutions, health clinics/hospitals, port arrastre services, rice and corn traders, and security and general services.
The RTPWB 6 had started the series of public consultations in connection with the petition in Iloilo on February 4, this year. This was followed by Bacolod City on February 10, Guimaras on March 9, Antique on March 23, Kalibo on April 7, Boracay on April 8 and Capiz on April 13.
During the May 1 Labor Day celebration, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered Labor Secretary Marianito Roque to fast track ongoing wage hike negotiations by wage boards in the regions. (PIA)
