RPs most-child friendly LGU unveils children museum
The Municipality of New Lucena recently opened its museum that will serve as repository of learning materials intended for children.
The town was recently conferred by the Office of the President the Hall of Fame Award for having been declared as a child-friendly local government unit (LGU) for 4th to 6th class municipality for three years now.
Likewise, it was awarded the Presidential citation and P300,000 cash incentive for winning the Child Health Conscious LGU also for 4th to 6th class municipality.
Social Welfare and Development Office assistant regional director Joel Galicia, who joined representatives of New Lucena during the awarding ceremony in Malacanang, said that the award will be displayed at the museum for the people to also appreciate the fruit of their efforts.
Galicia added that the museum will also allot area for children’s recreation aside from serving as a resource learning center.
The regional office of the DSWD here has been providing the LGU with technical assistance but he stressed that it is the town of New Lucena, through its municipal council for the protection of children, that pushed for the provision of funds to child-friendly programs.
He likewise, encouraged all other municipalities to also come up with similar programs.
The Presidential Award on child-friendly LGUs was conceptualized to recognize towns and cities with programs geared towards “sustained promotion of children’s rights to survival, development and protection.” (PNA)
