Iloilo City school to receive hall of fame award
The Nabitasan Elementary School in Lapaz District will receive the Brigada Eskwela Hall of Fame Award on June 18 in Tacloban City.
This was announced by Education Supervisor II Julieta Braga of the Department of Education 6 during the launching of Brigada Eskwela Plus 2010 held at the A. Montes I Elementary School, Zamora Street, Iloilo City yesterday, May 24.
Braga said that Nabitasan Elementary School has been given the Hall of Fame award after winning for three consecutive years the “Best Brigada Eskwela Implementer” in the elementary category since 2007.
Dr. Eva de Juan, former Principal of Nabitasan Elementary School, attributed the recognition to the active participation of the various stakeholders tapped by the school personnel during the Brigada Eskwela period.
In last year’s Brigada Eskwela, De Juan said, thousands participated to help in the construction, repair and other maintenance and clean-up works just to get the school ready and conducive for more than 400 pupils enrolled in the school.
De Juan added that they have also generated P2.7 million worth of donations in-kind and services during the Brigada Eskwela 2009.
Included in the P2.7 million, said De Juan, is the P1 million given by Mayor Jerry Trenas as a gift for ranking number one in the National Achievement Test in the Division of Iloilo City.
De Juan said the high academic rating of NES is “one way of reciprocating the aid and support given by partners and other stakeholders to the school”.
For his part, Mr. Semi Camacho, currently the Officer-in-Charge of NES said that he will continue to undertake programs to sustain and continue the physical improvement of the school.
“Through improved physical facilities we aim to achieve a zero drop-out rate and increase the number of those who will complete their elementary education,” said Camacho.
Brigada Eskwela Plus is a component of the Balik Eskwela 2010 project of the DepEd to ensure the smooth opening of classes this school year 2010-2011 set on June 15. It encourages stakeholder involvement in the upkeep of the schools throughout the year. (PIA)
