Iloilo town gets over P700-M for irrigation
The town of Barotac Viejo, gets a funding of about P738 million for the construction of Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) from the national government.
National Irrigation Administration (NIA) 6 Director Edilberto Lomigo said the construction will augment irrigation services to the existing service area of 1,700 hectares in that town.
Lomigo said that the NIA central office has already advised the release of P15 million for the pre-construction activities which will start this June.
The project, NIA said, is intended to develop the full potential of water for irrigation, fish culture and agricultural production, as Barotac Viejo is among the top producers of fish and agricultural products in the province.
The construction will include a 28.4 meter high-zoned, earth-filled dam to store 12.58 mcm of water, irrigation and drainage facilities that will serve a total of 2,141 hectares, road networks and the rehabilitation of existing diversion dam and irrigation facilities. (PIA6/ESS)
