Gun ban nets 27 violators in Capiz
ROXAS CITY – Twenty-seven violators of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) election gun ban and illegal possession of firearms have been apprehended by police authorities in the province since Jan. 10 to June 3 this year.
The implementation of total ban of firearms in view of the recently concluded May 10 national and local elections will end on June 9.
“Civilians comprised the most number of violators with 23,” said Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) Public Information Officer PO3 Donna Asmod.
Asmod added that the gun ban campaign in the province has confiscated 19 firearms and five bladed weapons.
Based on CPPO records, the municipalities of President Roxas, Pilar and Jamindan and city of Roxas topped the highest number of arrested gun ban violators with four arrests each.
Capiz Police Director Police S/Supt. Josepheus Angan has commended all the local police stations for their accomplishments during the flag raising and awarding ceremonies last May 31.
“I know that you have gone through a lot of sacrifices during election period. But take pride to have been a part of the history, the first automated election in the country,” Angan said in a CPPO blogsite.
The province’s top cop noted that no major incidents had transpired during election period “and that HOPE 2010 prevailed in the province.”
