Neophyte fireman died while undergoing training
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) VI confirmed that one of its neophyte personnel died while undergoing training very recently.
Senior Supt. William del Rosario, BFP-6 assistant regional director for administration and operations, identified the fatality as FO1 Benmar Bolinas, 23, of Roxas City.
Bolinas was part of the 50 newly-hired BFP personnel who were undergoing training at the Iloilo Sports Complex at La Paz, Iloilo City
During weekdays, Del Rosario said that neophyte BFP personnel are made to undergo physical conditioning training.
He added that he training was to shape the trainees’ mind and physical well-being so that they are physically fit when responding to fire calls.
“Nag low ang resistance kay siguro kay indi man naton mabal-an ang aton physical condition everyday,” del Rosario told GMA TV-6 noting that Bolinas passed their medical examination.
“At that time, maybe, his physical health already gave up,” he added.
Initial investigation found no foul play on the trainee’s death.
But the BFP hierarchy still ordered an autopsy to be conducted on the victim.
Meanwhile, Del Rosaio assured that Bolinas’ family will get the full benefits and privileges due him.
Relatedly, it was gathered that there are 110 applicants for a BFP fireman post but only 17 passed.
