Grenade lobbed at retired cop’s house; 3 persons hurt
Three persons were wounded when still unidentified persons lobbed grenades at a retired policeman’s house at Phase 3, 3rd Main Avenue, Alta Tierra Village, Jaro, Iloilo City.
Injured were Andrew Altas, 40, son of retired SPO4 Antonio Altas, Jr.; his driver Christopher Parreño of Brgy. Malipayon, City Proper, Iloilo City; and Andrew’s friend, 29-year old Noe Dañucop, also of the same village.
But the retired cop believed that he was not the target of the attack but his son, Andrew, who is a cockfight enthusiast.
“Basi parte ni sa bulang kay nagbulang ni sila sang san-o lang to sa Mandurriao,” Antonio opined but did not elaborate further why someone would want to hurt Andrew and his pals.
At around 7:15 in the evening of Monday, Antonio said that he was literally shaken while resting at a couch after hearing a loud explosion outside their house.
“Daw haboy bala nga palagpat haw,” he claimed adding that his son and the two wounded persons were outside the house when the incident happened.
He claimed to have seen two motorcycles which then sped off going to the Coastal Road area, just at the back portion of the Alta Tierra Village.
Despite getting wounded, Andrew drove Parreño and Dañucop to the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital for treatment of multiple shrapnel wounds on the different parts of their body.
Several parts of the house were also destroyed and so was a Nissan Navara pick-up (FGN-215) owned by Grace Altas.
The incident also claimed the lives of a cat and three heads of fighting cocks.
Meanwhile, members of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Explosives Ordinance Division, PNP SOCO, and Jaro Police Station recovered assorted fragments and parts of improvised explosive devise and safety pin of a fragmentation grenade.
According to Jaro PNP chief Chief Insp. Orly Gabinete, they are exploring all possible angles of the incident.
He claimed that they are yet to identify the suspects of the grenade blast.
