NFA: Iloilo has 35 days buffer stock of rice
The National Food Authority (NFA) reported that Iloilo province has still a buffer stock enough to last for another 35 days.
NFA Iloilo Manager Heddy Jardeleza said that based on their rice inventory, presently there are 741,240 bags of rice in the warehouse which could serve as buffer stock for the Ilonggos for the next 35 days.
According to the NFA, the Ilonggo people consumed an estimated 21,260 bags of rice daily.
Jardeleza said that with this buffer stock, the Ilonggos are assured of sufficient supply of rice. “We have sufficient supply of rice even if the planting season is delayed,” the NFA official assured.
There has been a delay in the palay planting this wet season because of the lack of water from irrigation as an offshoot of the El Niño phenomenon. Farmers should have started planting palay in May. (PNA)
