Comelec ready for SK, Barangay polls registration
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here is now preparing for the conduct of registration for the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and Barangay elections on October 25 this year.
Comelec regional director Atty. Dennis Ausan said the period of registration will be from July 1 to 31.
Ausan said the registration will include application for new voters, application of transfer and change of status, reactivation and correction of entry.
Comelec Resolution 8220 specifies that only Filipinos who are at least 15 years old but below 18 years old on Oct. 25 are qualified to register for the SK elections.
“They also have to be residents of their barangay for at least six months on election day,” said Ausan.
Meanwhile, new registrants for barangay election should be above 18 years old.
Registrants are asked to bring any valid identification card like postal ID, student ID, library card, or passports and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and police clearances.
Ausan urged registrants to bring their identification cards and birth or baptismal certificates, or their school records during the registration period to prevent some delays.
He also said that those who have no valid IDs may have somebody vouch for their identities by having them sign an oath of identification.
“Those who are already registered and have voted in the last May elections need not register anymore,” he said.
Ausan stressed that they will be using Data Capturing Machine (DCM) during the registration to prevent the possible doubling of registration.
He also stressed that registration starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. at any Comelec offices (Municipal office, City and Provincial Comelec Office).
Ausan said the upcoming SK and Barangay elections would be done manually unlike the May 10 national and local elections which was automated.
