Treñas: Shift to LP means more projects for city
Incoming congressman Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas explained that his joining the Liberal Party (LP) of president-elect Noynoy Aquino would benefit the city in general as it would mean more projects for the city.
Treñas, who ran under the Nacionalista Party (NP) of defeated presidential candidate Manny Villar during the election, said Senator-elect Franklin Drilon convinced him to join the LP.
Treñas said being in the administration party means a lot in terms of projects for the city. He cited his closeness to outgoing Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo which brought many projects to the city such as flyovers, roads, bridges, and slaughterhouse, among others.
Treñas said he will be attending the LP’s party convention in Manila this Friday, June 25.
Part of the convention is to choose who will be the party’s candidate for the House Speaker post.
Treñas assured he will be supporting a capable and deserving speaker when the House opens its 15th Congress on July 1, 2010.
Meanwhile, Drilon admitted in a radio interview that he is interested to become the next Senate President, however, he was saddened when the allegation came out that presidential sister TV host and actress Kris Aquino is supporting Sen. Kiko Pangilinan — husband of Kris’ best friend Sharon Cuneta-Pangilinan.
Drilon, however, said that he is respecting the decision of his party if he will not be chosen for the post.
“Gina respecto ko ina. Ang importante nga sige ang aton serbisyo sa mga tawo kag komunidad,” he stressed.
