EYE OPENER
Arthur Defensor Sr. returns to the Capitol
Comebacking Iloilo Governor Art Defensor Sr. will make enter the new Iloilo Provincial Capitol, which was his brainchild before he stepped down in 2000, on Thursday, July 1, 2010. He was governor of Iloilo for three terms until 2000 when he was elected congressman of the 3rd District of Iloilo.
Defensor will start overseeing his staff and employees and will no doubt inherit many woes and problems the outgoing administration may have left unsolved. He has to take hold of the big broom and sweep away the dust of corruption that may still hound him and his colleagues. He will no doubt huddle with the COA auditors and other government graftbusters to review the millions of pesos the government soothsayers had reported. There will be a hundred and one, so to say, problems the new governor will encounter in the course of his detective-eye personality.
The governor will act boldly in fulfilling his campaign promises during the recent polls that he will eliminate graft and corruption in his administration. Of course, Gov. Defensor cannot do the cleansing activity in just a week or a month. But the saying goes, “a promise undone is a promise not being done.” Being a brilliant Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives during his incumbency, Defensor can handle the situation with calmness but quick action.
The people of Iloilo will be watching the talented and honest governor when he starts wielding his baton of governance and bring back the province to her “happy days” again. Can the new governor do the Herculean task his constituents expect him to do during his next three years of lording over in the P400 million new Iloilo Capitol building? We wish you success Gov. Defensor and may the good Lord watch over you as you direct and operate the machinery of the provincial capitol and the 42 towns including the City of Passi with utmost efficiency and dedication. God bless!
