NEDA VI establishes Regional Database System
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office VI is currently in the process of establishing its Regional Database System by initially conducting a consultation-workshop participated in by 52 participants coming from various government agencies in the region, as well as, local government units last June 24, 2010 at the Jalaur Conference Room, NEDA VI building, Iloilo City.
Spearheaded by the Knowledge Management Division, together with the other technical divisions of NEDA, Region VI, the consultation-workshop was specifically called to determine what data and maps are presently available in the different government agencies and to ascertain the frequency of data collection, level of disaggregation and sources of data/information.
The database that will be established will encompass vital socio-economic indicators of major sectors, reference materials and spatial maps that provide indispensable information useful in policy-making, development planning, program/project development, resource allocation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as, advocacy activities at the regional and local levels to develop their own database.
The database will eventually be processed into useful information and packaged into reference materials for distribution to NEDA’s development partners in government, private sector, academe, students and the general public, as well as, translated into a geo-referenced information system that will be useful for physical and land use planning.
OIC ARD Nicholas B. Rivas, Jr. of NEDA, Region VI emphasized in his opening message, “This consultation-workshop is a major step in our efforts to establish a regional database and agree on the subsequent phases to operationalize the system.” (NEDA-6)
