PNP chief to keep focus on ‘transformation and reform’
From the looks of it, PNP chief Director General Jesus Versoza would not follow the lead of then AFP chief of staff General Delfin Bangit in resigning from the service.
And with several months to go before his mandatory retirement, Versoza assured the administration of President-elect Benigno Simeon Aquino III that he would continue the “transformation and reform” program in the police organization.
“We have a program at the PNP and we want to continue the programs. Probably, these are the things that the new president would want me to do that we would go on with the continuing programs of the PNP,” he hinted.
When further asked to confirm on the status of his stint as PNP chief in the Aquino administration, the country’s top cop said that he would be discussing it to Aquino.
“I would be conferring with the new president because there were previous pronouncements of my retention,” he said admitting that he already had an informal talk with the president-elect.
“But it’s quite informal. Wala naman gaanong napag-uusapan what to do during his term,” he said.
During his visit in Iloilo City, Versoza could not hide his contentment over the “relationship” he had with Aquino.
“Okay naman ang relationship namin,” he said. But when pressed to elaborate it, Versoza only claimed, “As members of the media, you know the developments, as far as my relationship with the new president is concerned.”
A member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1976, Verzosa became the PNP chief in September 2008.
He is scheduled to retire on December 25 of this year.
