DOLE 6 to release almost P2M for 400 jobless workers
The Department of Labor and Employment 6 will release P1.995 million in assistance to about 400 unemployed workers in Western Visayas under its Kabuhayan Starter Kits Project, the agency said in a press release.
Assistant Regional Director Crispin Dannug Jr., officer-in-charge of the DOLE 6, said his office approved 35 proposals equivalent to such amount aimed at assisting long-term unemployed workers to start their livelihood activities.
The assistance will be used to conduct skills training and purchase various tools, jigs, and equipment which the beneficiaries will use to start their livelihood activities and become self-employed.
Among the livelihood activities included are: manicure and pedicure, foot spa, facial treatment, carpentry, electrical wiring repair and services, massage therapy and reflexology, tile setting, sewing, plumbing, welding automotive, refrigeration and air conditioning and computer hardware servicing.
Of the P1.995 million approved for assistance, Negros Occidental was allocated P841,200 while Iloilo, P665,967, each with 10 projects. Capiz has P225,000 for five projects; Antique, P136,690, seven projects; and Aklan, P95,882, four projects.
Negros Occidental also has the most number of beneficiaries, 150; followed by Capiz, 115; Iloilo, 100; Antique 17; and Aklan, 11.
Most of the beneficiaries are long-term unemployed out of school youth, women, and landless farmers, the press release from DOLE 6 said.
CALINOG ASSISTANCE
Dannug also turned over a check worth P150,000 as livelihood assistance to Banban Pequeno Integrated Development Association of Calinog, Iloilo for its Carpentry/Furniture-Making Project.
The assistance will be used to conduct a 10-day skills training to 15 unemployed out-of-school youth and farm workers with a cost of P15,000. The remaining P135,000 will be used to purchase tools and machinery such as backsaw, chisel, electric grinder, drill, plainer, and circular saw.
