Roldan upbeat on Region 6 stint
Newly installed Labor Regional Director Manuel Roldan is very optimistic of his assignment in Western Visayas as he called for support from the agency’s personnel to achieve the challenges posed by Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz.
“Secretary Baldoz instructed me to reach out to the poorest of the poor and advocate for paradigm shift of our people in this region towards technical-vocational courses, which are more in demand in the labor market,” he said in a press release of the Department of Labor and Employment 6.
Roldan will work with Assistant Regional Director Crispin Dannug, Jr., who was previously officer-in-charge of DOLE 6.
Before his present assignment was in the Office of the Secretary following his assignment as labor attaché to Rome.
He first joined the labor department in 1978 as staff of the Rural Workers Office, now the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns.
In 1986, he became one of the first set of Conciliator-Mediators handling labor relations problems lodged in the newly created National Conciliation and Mediation Board.
He was appointed assistant regional director of DOLE 11 -Davao Region from 1991 to 1994, and later as full-fledged regional director from 1995 to 2001. He also served as regional director of DOLE 10 from 2001 to 2003.
Roldan was appointed labor attaché in October 2003, and had stints in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Rome, Italy before this assignment in Western Visayas.
