Cebu Pacific awarded top ASEAN airline
Cebu Pacific was awarded by the Changi Airport Group as the top Southeast Asian airline which registered the highest growth in passenger traffic last year, a press release from the airline said.
The award was announced during the 5th Annual Changi Airline Awards 2010 on July 13, recognizing the contribution of Cebu Pacific to Singapore’s air hub status.
The airline started flying to Singapore in 2006.
Cebu Pacific flew approximately 375,000 passengers to and from Singapore in 2009, with a year-on-year growth of 57 percent. The airline flies from Singapore to Manila 25 times weekly, to Cebu daily (starting October 31), and to Clark daily (starting October 29).
For these routes, the lowest possible year-round “Go Lite” fare is SG$120 to Manila and Cebu, and SG$80 to Clark. Those with check-in luggage will just add S$4 upon booking.
“Cebu Pacific is working to increase its operations aggressively in the ASEAN region, especially to Singapore, its most popular ASEAN destination from the Philippines. We are expecting delivery of more brand-new planes until 2014, which can be used for our capacity expansion, frequency increases and new destinations,” Candice Iyog, vice president for marketing and distribution, said.
The airline is buying 22 more 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft for delivery starting in October this year until 2014.
Its January to May 2009 and 2010 passenger figures have already indicated a 44 percent year-on-year growth, up to 206,380 passengers from 143,186 passengers last year.
“We are happy for this distinction by the Changi Airport Group, as we have been steadily bringing in passengers from the Philippines and other international destinations to Singapore. Our focus on offering consistent low fares and producing a high quality travel product is paying off,” Iyog added.
Based on news reports, Changi Airport’s traffic growth in 2010 has been healthy as passenger traffic grew by 16.7 per cent while freight increased 17.3 per cent in the first five months. The growth puts Changi on track to surpass its record 37.7 million passenger movements handled in 2008.
