Iloilo workers to avail DOLE livelihood aid
The Department of Labor and Employment 6 has approved ten livelihood undertaking proposals from Iloilo province amounting to P665,967 under its Kabuhayan Starter Kits Project.
About 100 long-term unemployed Ilonggo workers are expected to benefit from the project consisting of package of services that will enable them to start “easy to learn” livelihood undertakings. These services include skills trainings and purchase of various tools, jigs, and equipment.
The livelihood undertakings approved are Manicure and Pedicure, Make-up and Hairstyle, Consumer Electronic Services, Electrical Wiring Repair Services, Carpentry, Masonry, Cellphone Repair, Welding and Automotive, Refrigeration and Airconditioning, and Plumbing.
Earlier, the DOLE also released some P350,000 worth of checks under the project for the livelihood undertakings identified by the 39 beneficiaries from the municipalities of Maasin, Badiangan and Calinog.
The Maasin Overseas Contract Workers Beneficiaries Association received their check worth P100,000 last March 16. The group composed of displaced OFWs and their families chose cosmetology as their livelihood undertaking.
A group of displaced OFWs and their families in Badiangan have also chosen cosmetology and received their check worth P100,000 last March 24.
Last June 2, the Banban Pequeno Integrated Development Association of Calinog received their check worth P150,000 for Carpentry/Furniture-Making Project. The financial assistance will be used for a 10-day skills training and purchase of tools and machineries of 15 beneficiaries who are unemployed out-school-youth and farm workers.
The Kabuhayan Starter Kits Project is part of the continuing effort of DOLE to engage beneficiaries such as the disadvantaged workers, displaced OFWs and their families, and the marginalized informal sector in sustainable self-employment to improve their quality of life.
