PIOs urged to help in tax drive
ROXAS CITY – The Bureau of Internal Revenue here has vowed to step up its tax collection efforts by implementing various tax measures.
Information Officer Ma. Gracia Balgos of the BIR Capiz called on the members of the Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers to help in their tax campaign.
Balgos said they are determined to intensify their tax collection by running after tax cheats.
She disclosed that they have not failed to remind all business establishments regarding their tax compliance.
However, public information officers can do more as an information-support group especially in the tax drive, she said.
Balgos also urged the public to ask for official receipts for the goods being bought and services rendered.
Earlier, BIR Commissioner Kim Henares pledged to intensify the agency’s tax collection by running after tax cheats.
Henares said they are strengthening their enforcement activities, and it is highlighted by filing tax evasion cases and even intends to keep on filing said cases every other week.
“I have confidence in my people and confidence in the attitude of the Filipino people, that they want to help their government; and that we will able to reach the P860-billion goal,” she said.
To encourage more income earners to pay their taxes, Henares hinted that the BIR would simplify and streamline the tax payment system.
