Survey of RP businesses, industries starts in August
The 2009 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry will start next month with the distribution of questionnaires to about 25,000 establishments selected from the 2009 updated National Statistics Office List of Establishments.
The survey will use the 2009 Philippine Standard Industrial Classification, which provides the industry classification of establishments, and the 1992 Philippine Standard Geographic Code, as amended in 2002.
It hopes to collect and generate information on the structure and trends of economic activities. It will cover corporations, cooperatives and foundations and single proprietorship. The statistical unit to be used in ASPBI is establishment. Ambulant peddlers and hawkers are not considered in the survey because they don’t have fixed business locations.
Sectors included in the survey are agriculture, hunting and forestry, fishing, mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity, gas and water supply and construction. Also included are wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles and personal and household goods, hotels and restaurants and transport, storage and communications.
The survey also covers financial institutions operating in the area, real estate, education, health and social work and other community social and personal service activities.
Results of the survey are used by the NSCB in the estimation of national and regional accounts vital in the formulation and monitoring of national and regional economic plans and policies. The data generated from the survey are also necessary in the (1) evaluation of regional economic structures and performances; (2) updating of the sampling frame for future conduct of establishment surveys; and (3) conduct of market research and feasibility studies of businesses.
A budget of P34.4 million or P1,376.36 per establishment is allocated for the 2009 ASPBI covering expenses for travel, supplies, printing, communication, freight, training and other miscellaneous.
Data analysis and evaluation are targeted to be accomplished in July 2011 while dissemination of survey results by industry will start in March 2012.
