‘Agriculture plan a boost to farmers’
Department of Agriculture Regional Director Larry Nacionales said President Benigno Aquino III’s plan for agricultural development mentioned in his first of the State of the Nation Address will be a big boost for the farmers especially in Western Visayas.
Nacionales said the grains terminals and post harvest facilities are really what the farmers need for storage and to lessen wastage during harvest time.
He said although there are now trading posts or bagsakan centers in the barangay level in the region, what are needed the most are the big posts as envisioned by the new DA secretary to be established.
“With the big trading posts, the agricultural producers and their buyers would have more access to meet together,” Nacionales said.
He said these trading posts would also have cold storage and other facilities needed by the farmers to preserve their produce and to be able to sell these fresh.
At present, the towns of Tubungan and Leon in Iloilo province have trading posts. PNA
