Rebels fire at Army detachment in Antique
A group of suspected New People’s Army rebels fired at the military’s Osorio Detachment in San Remegio, Antique at around 10 p.m. Monday.
No one was injured.
“It was clearly a harassment and not intended to kill or maim our CAAs (Civilian Active Auxiliary),” 1st Lt. Mark Andrew Posadas, spokesperson of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, said.
In Leon, Iloilo on Monday noon, five suspected rebels also hijacked a van driven by Jomarie Regalado Tuadles along with salesman Rey Ginetilo.
The suspects, who introducted themselves as NPA members, boarded their vehicle from Leon Public Market and instructed Tuadles to drive towards Brgy. Samlague where they were met by other armed men.
Tuadles said the suspects told him they are only after the company’s cash collection.
The victims’ personal belongings and cash will not be taken, they were told.
The rebels admitted they have been asking money from Mega Via Corp., the owner of the van, but the company continues to refuse.
Posadas said the series of harassments and criminal acts of the NPA is obviously a sign of NPA’s defiance against President Aquino’s call for reconciliation.
“It only shows that as much as the government is sincere in pursuing to end this 40-year conflict, the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA are not as serious in this endeavor and continue with their criminal and terrorist activities,” he said.
