Gumban on his way out of IPPO
Senior Supt. Renato Gumban, officer-in-charge of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office, will soon be relieved from his post.
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. may have been “pleased” by the neutralization of a notorious robbery hold-up in the province, but he said he is now waiting for the names of the three recommendees from the Philippine National Police Central Command who will replace Gumban next month.
Defensor, however, refused to assess Gumban’s performance.
The governor said the change of command is a normal practice in the PNP and he is also open to change.
“I don’t want to preempt the nomination. Let us leave it to the PNP to decide,” he said.
Although he commended Gumban for the IPPO’s recent accomplishment in its anti-robbery campaign, Defensor said many robbery cases have remained unsolved.
WHO’S NEXT?
As to who will succeed Gumban, reports said Senior Supt. Gil Levin is a strong contender for the post.
Levin, presently assigned in Region 3 is an Ilonggo who previously served as chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 6.
Defensor was mum on Gumban’s possible successors but he said whoever will be the next provincial director would be very welcome in Iloilo.
Gumban will be assigned to the Capiz Provincial Police Office to take over the post of CPPO director Supt. Josephus Angan, who will replace Levin in his Region 3 post.
Gumban was appointed by former Gov. Niel Tupas in October last year to replace Senior Supt. Renato De la Paz, who then finished his two-year tour of duty at the IPPO, and is now assigned at the Regional Operations and Plans Division of the Police Regional Office 6.
