WV pay increase effective Aug. 12
The adjustment in the daily minimum wage of workers in Western Visayas will take effect on August 12, 2010, fifteen days after the publication of the new wage order issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board 6.
RTWPB 6 Board Secretary Nesa Nolido said they have already published Wage Order No. 18 containing the new wage increase last July 28.
Through Wage Order No. 18, the RTWPB 6 has approved a P15 per day wage increase to all minimum wage earners in the private sector in the region, regardless of their position, designation, or status of employment, and method by which they are paid.
Upon effectivity of the new wage order, the new minimum wage in the region for non-agricultural establishments employing more than 10 workers is P265 while for workers in the agricultural plantation sector, P233.
Minimum wage for non-agricultural establishments employing 10 workers or less and for workers in the agriculture-non plantation sector is now P223.
Under the new wage order, distressed establishments and new business enterprises are allowed a one-year exemption from the payment of the new minimum wage, upon application with and approval of the RTWPB.
These establishments can apply for the exemption within 75 days from publication of its approved Implementing Rules.
The RTWPB 6 issued the new wage order after holding a series of multi-sectoral consultations, public hearing and deliberation in line with the petition filed by the Trade Union of Filipino Workers seeking for an across-the board daily wage increase of P50 in the region. PIA
