Defensor orders removal of kiosks around Capitol
To keep the Capitol premises clean and orderly, Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. has ordered the removal of kiosks surrounding the area.
Defensor said these kiosks are a “black eye” to the beauty of the Capitol building and its premises.
The Capitol property covers the area from the Philippine Red Cross office to the old capitol building across Casa Plaza.
Defensor has directed Provincial Administrator Raul Banias to implement the order immediately.
“I want the Capitol premises clean and free from any mess and dirt,” he said.
Defensor said he wants the Capitol premises beautified so that it could attract tourists and become a convenient place to transact business.
AMBULANT VENDORS ALLOWED
The governor, however, said ambulant vendors will still be allowed inside the Capitol offices provided they will not create disturbance to the employees and those transacting business.
“We will allow them because some employees could not afford to buy expensive snacks and meals from the canteen or restaurant,” he said.
He advised the ambulant vendors to sell nutritious food and maintain proper cleanliness in handling and preparing their foodstuff.
COOPERATIVE
Starting next month, the canteen inside the Capitol building occupied by a private consignee will be turned over to the employees’ cooperative.
The consignee rents the space for P10,000 a month.
Defensor said the rent is very cheap and the Capitol employees cooperative can afford to rent the space at the same cost.
“We will give the cooperative a chance to expand their profit and enjoy the privilege given to them,” he said.
