Councilor demands public apology from grandpa
A Sangguniang Bayan member of Oton, Iloilo accused his grandfather of physically assaulting him recently.
Councilor Juan Miguel Flores, 24, has demanded a public apology from Felix Flores, his fellow councilor and former town mayor.
The complainant’s father is Felix’s nephew and so is incumbent mayor, Vincent Flores.
With video of the attack, Juan Miguel faced the media and narrated the incident.
He said he had a cleanup drive last July 31 at the Oton town plaza, and as chairman of the tourism committee, he said his action has the mayor’s approval.
During the activity, the complainant alleged that his grandfather summoned him.
“Pagpalapit ko sa iya, ginsumbag niya ko dayon sa dughan. Ginkaptan niya ang bayo ko. Ginduro-duro niya ko. Gintampa, ginkuga niya ko. Ginhambalan niya ko nga “Patyon ta ka. Atribido ka nga bata ka, (When I came to him, he punched me. He pulled my shirt. He pointed his finger at me then he slapped and tried to choke me. He told me he will kill me. You’re getting involved in something you should not),” Juan Miguel narrated.
Juan Miguel claimed that Felix told him his personal reason over the said outburst.
“Basi mapatay kuno ang kahoy kag mainitan siya kung mag jogging siya (The trees may die and he will feel the heat of the sun when he goes jogging),” he added.
For the complainant, it was a petty reason.
“Indi siya ang tag-iya sang plaza sang Oton (He doesn’t own the plaza of Oton),” he added.
Aside from physical pain, Juan Miguel claimed that he also suffered emotional and psychological torture.
He said he loves his grandfather and he respects him. Still, he is concerned that if Felix can do it to him, who is his relative, he can also do it to others who are poor.
