Alquisada valuable to Provincial Board’
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. said newly elected Philippine Councilors League president Suzette Alquisada of Tigbauan can play an important role in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
“She is valuable to the (SP) considering that she is a practicing lawyer,” the governor said.
Alquisada, a political ally of Defensor, won a landslide victory against Passi City Councilor Aura Landar-Layese during the election held last Wednesday at Iloilo Grand Hotel.
Layese had earlier filed a mandamus petition before the Regional Trial Court against Vice Gov. Oscar Garin and several board members for refusing to let her assume as ex-officio member representing the PCL to replace Janiuay Councilor Cecilia Colada whose term expired on June 20.
RTC Branch 31 Judge Rene Hortillo, however, dismissed Layese’s petition, stating she has no legal right to the position.
Defensor said he was very pleased with the result of the PCL election because the organization elected a president who is very much qualified.
For her part, Alquisada called on her colleagues to set aside politics and support the PCL Iloilo Chapter.
“Let us move forward and work together for our organization to be successful,” she said.
Alquisada and her fellow PCL officers took their oath of office before Defensor last Friday.
The other officers are: Paolo Guanco (Pototan), vice president; Abner Viclar (Ajuy), secretary general; Japeth Salinas (Oton), treasurer; Gynnyn Gumban (Pavia), auditor; Rene de la Peña (Dumangas), business manager; Sherwin Sanchez (San Miguel), and public relations Officer;
The Board of Directors is composed of Francis Xavier Salcedo (Sara), Marcelo Valentin Serag (San Joaquin), Siegfred Betita (Carles), Horace Anthony Panes (Passi City), Joseph Allen Españo (Leganes), Edwin Espino (Maasin), Stella Umadhay (Anilao), and Mariano Legayada (Lambunao).*
