Windmills soon to rise in Guimaras
Windmills will soon rise in Guimaras and provide power all over the island-province, Gov. Felipe Hilan Nava said.
Nava said the groundbreaking rites for the project in Brgy. M. Chavez, San Lorenzo town will be held next month.
The windmills, owned by the Trans-Asia under the Philippine Investment Management Inc. Group of Companies, will be operational by 2012.
The windmills will initially produce eight megawatts, with each windmill generating up to two megawatts of power.
Other possible sites for the windmill project are in Brgy. Sabang, Sibunag and Brgy. Salvacion, Nueva Valencia.
The three windmill plant sites can generate up to 200 megawatts when fully operational and completed.
But initially the target is only 54 megawatts, Nava said.
He said they will invite President Benigno Simeon Aquino III to lead the groundbreaking ceremony.
Guimaras’ present power demand is about five to six megawatts. Its current source of power is a bunker plant which can only produce up to three megawatts which has caused rotating brownouts all over the province.*PNA
