Establishments surveys set
Three establishments’ surveys will be conducted simultaneously by the National Statistics Office starting the month of August.
The three surveys include the 2010 Survey of Philippine Business and Industry or the ASPBI, the 2010 Survey in Information and Communication Technology or SICT and the 2010 Survey on Tourism Establishments in the Philippines.
These surveys are nationwide undertaking of the NSO with business establishments as the sample respondents.
The 2010 ASPBI is a continuing activity of the NSO which aims to collect and generate information on the structure and trends of economic activities in the entire country for the year 2010.
The 2010 SICT is a rider survey conducted for the third time by the NSO which aims to gather ad generate information on the availability, distribution and access/utilization of information and communication technology in business and industries in the country.
Meanwhile, the 2010 STEP which is conducted for the first time, aims to provide data on the supply and capacity, inventory of facilities and services, employment, revenue and information on indicators for future expansion plans for tourism establishments.
The establishments that will be considered as sample for the 2010 ASPBI are those business establishments engaged in agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity gas and water, construction, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motorcycles and personal and household goods and those engaged in business and service.
The 2010 ASPBI will cover the formal sector of the economy that includes the corporations and partnerships, cooperatives and foundations, single proprietorships with employment of 10 or more and single proprietorship with branches.
The decision to include only the formal sector for this year’s ASPBI coverage was based on the contribution of this group to the value added of major sectors. In 11 of the 14 sectors, value added of the formal sector ranged from 80 to 100 percent of the total.*
