Guimbal hospital overflowing with dengue patients
The Pedro G. Trono Memorial Hospital in Guimbal, Iloilo is overflowing with dengue patients after admitting 274 of them to its only 50-bed facility.
Hospital chief Dr. Rafael Sabando said they need more folding beds to accommodate the patients.
He said patients who don’t have rooms are occupying the alleys of the hospital.
Guimbal Mayor Christine Garin has already provided 20 folding beds, but Sabando appealed to other mayors in the first district to also provide folding beds.
Sabando said the high number of dengue patients is also wearing out the hospital staff .
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. has already allowed the hiring of nurses, medical technologists and other health personnel for three months to augment the workforce of the provincial and district hospitals in Iloilo.
Sabando said most of the dengue patients admitted at Pedro G. Trono Memorial Hospital come from Tigbauan town, which has the third highest cases in Iloilo at 137.
Guimbal ranks fourth with 111 cases and one death, while Tubungan is sixth with 71 cases.*PNA
