Hexagram 34
The Power of the Great
Persistence to what is right is advantageous
Violation of the Rule:
There are times when fear is overpowering that the most obvious solution is to run away in doing what is right. This is excusable at times–especially for those who are not used to making difficult decisions.
Unfortunately, habitual running away from what is right brings one into misfortune.
Running away from what is right will not only harm oneself but also others who are in need of help.
Those who prefer to run away and sometimes go against what is right will have a more undesirable end.
They will not only be persecuted but will not even be given any value due to their having no identifiable position at all.
Most often, they are most useful as scapegoats when anything wrong happens.
Observation of the Rule:
The big difference between those who follow the right way and those who run away is a matter of risk taking.
Advantages can be obtained only if risks are undertaken.
Also, those who are known to never stand for what is right will leave a very undesirable mark with them whenever they may go.
Whether one dies or lives standing with what is right, it is always to one’s advantage.
Those who wish to preserve their integrity are advised to remain with what is right, even if only for the purpose of maintaining one’s sanity.
Doing what is right also means constant self-improvement. This improvement does not always mean a physical one.
Improvement appears in many forms. Improvement that is observable is best if grounded inside so that whatever crisis may occur one remains stable.
Any strength that originates from the outside will always end in untimely destruction.
