New IPPO chief installed today
Senior Supt. Gil Levin will be installed as director of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office today during the 9 a.m. rites at Camp Sumagaysay in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
Levin (not Lebin as earlier reported) will replace outgoing Senior Supt. Renato Gumban, who will be assigned as director of Capiz Provincial Police Office starting tomorrow.
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., who will be the guest speaker during the turn-over ceremony, had earlier challenged Levin to do his job well and to neutralize all forms of illegal activities in the province, particularly robbery.
When governor was asked to rate Gumban’s performance, he returned the question to the outgoing IPPO director.
“Ask yourself what have you done in the province. Just tell the truth,” he said, adding that there was no politics behind Gumban’s reassignment.
Gumban was appointed by former Gov. Niel Tupas in October last year to replace Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, who then finished his two-year tour of duty at the IPPO.
Meanwhile, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he is still assessing the overall performance of the five recommendees for the post of city police director.
Aside from ICPO officer-in-charge Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, other recommendees are Senior Supt. Marietto Valerio, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, Senior Supt. Orlando Ualat, and Senior Supt. Manuel Cubillo.
Reports said that for Mabilog, De la Paz is a strong contender while Basngi is the choice of Iloilo City Rep. Jerry Treñas.*
