Brighter job opportunities seen
There are brighter employment opportunities for Filipino jobseekers in the fourth quarter of the year and into 2011, a labor official said.
Assistant Regional Director Crispin Dannug Jr. of the Department of Labor and Employment 6 cited the recent report of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas indicating that more jobs may be available in the last quarter of 2010 and the following year.
“The report states that the employment outlook index has hit an all-time high of +21. This is the highest since the BSP started covering the survey in 2001,” Dannug said.
The results of the survey showed that the sectors surveyed plan to increase their workforce. These sectors include banks, hotels and restaurants, construction, and wholesale and retail.
Dannug said that an industry leader in semi-conductor and electronics has
urged the government to increase funding in research and development to enable the country to attract billions of dollars in investments. Increased investment means more jobs.
He added that according to Board of Investments Managing Director Cristino Panlilio, multinationals will be transferring or returning to the Philippines as there are serious efforts to locate here from China and there are inquiries from the manufacturing of light industries.
Meanwhile, Dannug congratulated the Iloilo City government for holding a job fair on August 25.
“This is part of the good governance strategy of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog,” Dannug said, as he assured the city officials the DOLE will work closely with the city government to meet the challenges for more jobs.
Dubbed “Trabaho Para Sa Inyo” Sulong Iloilo, the job fair is the first in Iloilo City this year.
Public Employment Services Office Manager Allan Zaldivar said employers that participated in the job fair include 35 private local companies and 15 overseas recruitment agencies, offering about 500 job openings.*PIA
