Bakers to sell cheap loaf bread by Sept. 15
MANILA – Bakers will produce cheaper Pinoy “Tasty” loaves within the month at P36 per 450 gram loaf.
Luisito Chavez, vice president of the Federation of Philippine Bakers Association, said Pinoy Tasty will be made available starting September 15 in supermarkets, groceries and sari-sari stores.
‘This is a sustainable move on our part because this is not just an initiative among three bakers groups but is also supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and Bureau of Food and Drug,” Chavez said.
Chavez said the Pinoy Tasty will be the initial topic during the launch of the radio program “Buhay Panadero” on September 4 over DZXL.
“Pinoy Tasty” will be produced by the Philippine Baking Industry Group, the Federation of Philippine Bakers and Filipino-Chinese Bakers.
Flour millers, however, have already imposed P60 per bag of flour price hike and are set to impose P100 more in two tranches.
Chavez said that bakers would adopt a uniform basic formula in loaf bread making and the bread has a unified packaging but has different tags of their particular producers. It will have 500 gram dough weight and 450 bread weight.
Chavez said that bakers would have a very slim margin in the production of Pinoy Tasty, saying this is more of a corporate social responsibility among them.
“Our radio program seeks to uplift the baking industry by teaching the proper technology to bakers, thus making them more cost efficient,” he said.
One of the most important campaigns of the radio show would be sanitation and hygiene in the production of breads.
“This is not only for the bakers but also the consumers to benefit because proper handling of ingredients and finished products would lengthen the shelf life of the bread,” he said.
The weekly radio program will also teach bakers the marketing aspect and how to make their business profitable.*PNA
