Aklan seeks to rehabilitate 200 has. of coconut plantations
The Aklan provincial government is targeting to rehabilitate some 200 hectares of coconut plantations in the province this year.
Board Member Rodson Mayor, who represented Gov. Carlito Marquez in
the recent Coconut Celebration Month program, said the province will also assist in the intercropping of some 250 hectares, and will provide about 1,000 bags of fertilizer.
“Let us continue planting coconuts so that more people could benefit and will have added income,” he said.
Aklan has the largest area planted to coconut among the provinces in Western Visayas, according to the Philippine Coconut Authority.
Kalibo Mayor William Lachica said the local coconut industry has improved the lives of many coconut farmers in the town.
“This should inspire our coconut farmers to exert more effort to increase coconut production and work hand-in-hand with the executive and legislative so the industry continues to flourish,” Lachica said.
Lachica appealed to PCA Regional Manager Jose Cruz and other agency officials to help in extending support to the coconut industry in the province.*
