Aquino in deep crisis in his first two months
The public is waiting for the impartial report of the hostage-taking crisis at the Quirino grandstand where nine lives were lost, including the hostage taker. The crisis has divided the entire nation and brought deep rancor to both China and Hong Kong authorities. President Noynoy Aquino already took responsibility for the dreaded tragedy. Aquino’s popularity rating has dropped to a significant percentage and the nation seems to be divided on the mishandling of the situation.
It is well and good for the Philippine president to apologize to the Hong Kong family victims and the Filipino people and no doubt many heads will roll once the Secretary of Justice report comes out soon. Should the DILG Secretary and his assistant be scrapped from the list of Aquino cabinet members then the crisis is partly solved. For the people’s guidance, Noynoy Aquino should publish the qualification of each cabinet member for the guidance of the Filipino people. How were these cabinet members chosen? In his election campaign, Noynoy promised to eliminate graft and corruption in the country. Let the people know if each cabinet member has no iota of anomalous record in their entire public life or private employment. Are the Aquino cabinet members sensitive to public demand? Why did the DILG secretary not resign when the public demanded his resignation due to the inability of the police, which is under the DILG supervision.
President Aquino should swiftly resolve the crisis dilemma and relieve those responsible for the snafu even his own Cabinet members. Aquino said that the people are his boss and he should make his promise good. Once the crisis is finally resolved to the satisfaction of the departed families in Hong Kong, the President should reshuffle his Cabinet and employ only those who are not afraid of going to the crisis zone like what happened in the August 23 incident. Cabinet members should be ready to give their very own life if possible for the sake of service to people and country. Should President Aquino spare some of his cabinet members who bungled their assigned duty, then he can expect more lashes from the public. Govern like a true head of state and do not falter!
