Capiz opens ‘public service’ exhibit
ROXAS CITY – A public service exhibit opened last September 6 at the Provincial Capitol building here in line with the 110th anniversary of Philippine Civil Service this September.
“This is the proper time to showcase achievements and milestones in public governance to highlight the efficiency and effectiveness of public service,” Civil Service Commission Provincial Director Cynthia Gellegani said.
The exhibit features accomplishments and current programs, projects and activities of every government office.
Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. led the opening rites.
The month-long celebration, with the theme “In a R.A.C.E. to Serve: Advancing Responsive, Accessible, Courteous and Effective (RACE) Public Service,” shall provide government agencies and local government units with the opportunity to celebrate reforms and milestones as they fulfill their mandates.
The event will also highlight the race to excellence of civil servants and government agencies and show public service at its best.
The awarding of Certificates of Eligibility to Civil Service Professional and Sub-Professional Examination passers was held after the flag raising and a mass.
President Benigno Simeon Aquino III had earlier exhorted state workers, whom he called “partners” in public service, to advance genuine service to the Filipino people.”
“I am happy to have you on my side in our continued fight to build a government that would not turn away from its responsibilities to the country,” the President said in a recorded message aired over a radio station on September 4.
For his part, CSC Chairman Francisco Duque III said the bureaucracy needs the right direction, strategy and speed to win the race against mediocrity, graft, corruption, and setbacks caused by limited resources and increased public expectations.
The civil service system in the Philippines was formally established under Public Law No. 5 (“An Act for the Establishment and Maintenance of Our Efficient and Honest Civil Service in the Philippine Island”) in 1900 by the Second Philippine Commission.*PIA
