3 newly formed rob groups monitored
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office is keeping watch on the three newly formed robbery groups in the province believed to be behind the series of robbery incidents in the past days.
Senior Supt. Gil Lebin, provincial police director, said these groups are based in central Iloilo, particularly in Cabatuan town, the fourth district, and northern Iloilo.
Lebin alleged the robbery incidents in the first and second districts were the handiwork of the central Iloilo robbery group.
“We have already identified the members of these groups. For now, we could say that if they are not momentarily neutralized, they would lie low,” he said.
Like the group that robbed a gasoline station in Leon town last Friday. In their haste to flee from pursuing policemen, the three-motorcycle riding men figured in an accident, killing one of their members, Angelico Jordan of Brgy. Jelicuon, Cabatuan.
As robbery incidents continue in Iloilo, Lebin said the IPPO already expected an increase in crime against properties.
“Life is hard nowadays. It’s not yet harvest season. Illegal and immoral as it may seem, some people would resort to robbery and theft to feed their families,” he said.
But Lebin assured the Ilongos that he has reminded chiefs of police in the province to be vigilant and be proactive in their campaign against criminality.
He said that crimes would occur if there is “motive, instrumentality, and opportunity.”
Lebin reminded the public not to give opportunity to criminals to perpetrate their deeds.*
