NFA starts rice buying in Iloilo
The National Food Authority Iloilo has started to buy rice from farmers using its P43 million allocation from the agency’s central office.
NFA Iloilo Manager Hedy Jardeleza said their buying price for the clean and dry rice is P17.50 per kilo, of which 25 centavos will go to the farmers’ cooperative while the another 25 centavos, to the transportation cost.
Jardeleza said farmers or farmers’ cooperatives planning to sell their rice to the NFA can coordinate with the NFA buying stations strategically located in the different municipalities of the province.
Among the Iloilo towns that have early harvest are Banate and Dingle where farmers used the Kabsaka technology or dry seeding.
Iloilo province has 127,211 hectares of lowland areas, of which 85 percent have been planted with rice for the first cropping.*PNA
