Iloilo City gets praises for best practices
The Iloilo City Government was lauded for its best practices during the Palladium Hall of Fame for Executing Strategy Asia Pacific Summit 2010 in Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Manila last week.
The city’s presentation titled “Practical Tips and Key Learnings of the Public Sector” was adjudged the “Best Presentation.”
“We take pride with the Palladium Hall of Fame award – it’s a manifestation that the city is improving a lot. Our presentation of the city’s best practices and good governance strategies attracted 101 percent full attention from the audience. I was even forced to pause three times because of the loud applause,” Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
He said the city’s initiatives such as the wedding eco-park project in Calajunan dumpsite and the success of Dinagyang Festival generated outstanding remarks.
“It only shows that Iloilo City is an interesting place for visitors to see and enjoy and a destination for investments,” Mabilog said.
The wedding eco-park project requires marrying couple to plant tree seedlings at the Calajunan dump as a requirement prior to their civil wedding officiated by the mayor.
The world-renowned Dinagyang has been installed in the Hall of Fame by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines, citing active stakeholders’ participation and its great economic impacts to the city.
“We are now harvesting the fruits of our efforts. I ask everyone to continue to cooperate and support programs for the best of the city,” the mayor said.
Mabilog also awarded certificates of appreciation to the city’s team for the successful participation in the Palladium Summit.
The certificates were given to Executive Assistant Ma. Mathilde Octavio, City Planning and Development Officer Jose Roni Peñalosa, City Tourism Officer Benito Jimena, and Jigger Latoza, multi sectoral head for the city’s team for Public Governance System of the Institute for Solidarity in Asia.
“Their exemplary display of perseverance in bringing out the best in every endeavor they undertake in the furtherance of outstanding public service is truly worthy of commendation,” the certificate reads.*
