Roxas City–The province of Capiz has created the Provincial Tourism Council after a meeting called by Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. on September 28.
Its creation is anchored on Republic Act 9593, otherwise known as the Tourism Law of 2009, or an Act Declaring National Policy for Tourism as an Engine of Investment, Employment, Growth and national Development, and Strengthening the Department of Tourism and its Attached Agencies to Effectively and Efficiently Implement that Policy, and Appropriating Funds Thereof.
Tanco said tourism is among the national government’s priority sectors as it holds great potential not only in attracting large investments in infrastructure, facilities and foreign currency inflows but also in income and employment generation.
The Tourism Act of 2009 declares that tourism is an indispensable element of the national economy and an industry of national interest and importance which must be harnessed as an engine of socio-economic growth and cultural affirmation to generate foreign investment, foreign exchange and employment, and to continue to mold an enhanced sense of national pride of Filipinos.
Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office head Alphonsus Tesoro said the Capiz Provincial Tourism Council will act as coordinating and policy formulating body for tourism projects, programs and related activities.
Members will come from the various components of the tourism industry, entities, groups or individuals with direct or indirect economic, social or cultural interest in general tourism.
Tesoro said the provincial government of Capiz has also integrated tourism as one of its development agenda under Governor Tanco’s administration with the vision pillar “Eco-Cultural Tourism Hub in Central Philippines.”
He said tourism in Capiz has clearly positioned its vital role in socio-economic development and employment generation and in the enhancement of self-esteem and sense of pride of Capiznons.
With the creation of the Tourism Council, Tesoro said the province would be able to meet the challenges of the times and the demand for professional services in the field of employment generation and investment, domestic tourism promotion, and product competitiveness.*PIA
