Guv: No plan yet to lift dengue state of calamity
The Iloilo provincial government has no plan yet to lift the state of calamity declared after the dengue outbreak in the province although cases have decreased in recent weeks.
Provincial Health Office monitoring show from January 1 to September 25 this, Iloilo province has 5,147 dengue cases.
Hospital admission, however, has decreased to only 24 as of September 24.
The 24 cases were listed in the accumulated report from the 12 provincial and district hospitals in Iloilo.
Deaths have also remained at 27.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. said the rainy season is not yet over thus, he is anticipating that cases could still increase.
“I would rather sacrifice the resources of provincial government than increase the risk of dengue cases,” he said.
Dengue fever is transmitted by Aedes egypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes.
These are day-biting mosquitoes that breed in clear, stagnant waters.
Defensor advised the public to continue to search and destroy the breading areas of these mosquitoes.*
