Village heads urged to help implement city programs
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is calling on all village heads to strictly implement the programs of the city government in their respective communities.
Mabilog said the success of the various programs of his administration could happen with the cooperation and active implementation by the village heads in the community level.
He added that programs such as new garbage collection schemes, impounding of stray and rabid dogs, illegal power connections and anti-drug campaigns should be disseminated by the village head and the barangay council to their residents.
Most villages that lack awareness of new city programs and ordinances are actually run by performing barangay head, the mayor said.
He also reminded the village chiefs that as mayor he is insisting that they implement the programs, stressing that the city government is the one paying for their services with the people’s taxes.
Mabilog said he is not keen on knowing who they supported during the past elections.
What is important is that they must be efficient in their work and ready to help in any way they can. If they refuse to cooperate and support the city’s programs, they might as well stop serving as village heads, he said.
Iloilo City has 180 barangays, the most in a city all over the country.*PNA
